Hosted by Catholic Youth Parramatta (part of the Diocese of Parramatta), the procession commenced at Parramatta Town Hall with the blessing of palms and concluded with a Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta.
In its ninth year, the procession featured marching pilgrims waving palm leaves, burning incense and praying along the way to St Patrick’s Cathedral. The pilgrims were also treated to a pizza dinner after the Mass to celebrate the 32nd World Youth Day and the launch of preparations towards the Australian Catholic Youth Festival to be held in Sydney Olympic Park this December

Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Vincent Long OFM Conv, led the procession and welcomed the marching youth.
The hour-long procession is part of a 2,000 year Christian tradition that formally marks the beginning of Holy Week, the most important period of the Christian calendar.
