Way of Mercy launched

Beginning of the Way of Mercy and Solemnity of St Mary of the Cross, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta, 08 August 2016

The relics of St Mary MacKillop and Blessed Mother Teresa of Kolkata accompanied by a 3.7m high wooden Mercy Cross commenced their three-month journey through Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains on Monday 8 August.

The Bishop of Parramatta, Most Rev Vincent Long OFM Conv, launched the Way of Mercy during a Mass in St Patrick’s Cathedral. For Bishop Vincent’s homily, click here.

After the Mass, Sr Monica Barlow RSJ gave a short talk in the Cathedral forecourt on ‘Mary MacKillop and Mercy’. The cross and relics were then carried in procession around Prince Alfred Square opposite the Cathedral.

Parishes and schools, religious congregations, ministries, Church groups, agencies and movements will host a Cross and Relics of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta as they journey throughout the Diocese from 8 August to 13 November 2016.
