Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, has provided the following reflection for the Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time.
In today’s Gospel, after telling Peter that he must forgive a brother “seventy-seven times,” Jesus gives a parable on forgiveness.
A king was settling accounts with his servants. He decided to have a servant—who “had no way of paying [him] back” the huge amount he had owed—to be sold along with his family and properties.
