Following the recent celebration of Laudato Si’ Week, you are invited to a retreat inspired by caring for our common home.
‘Passion for the Earth – A Laudato Si’ Camp for Adults’ will be held from Tuesday 6 July to Thursday 8 July at the Wooglemai Environmental Education Centre in Oakdale, NSW, a site steeped in Aboriginal and historical connections.
“Passion for the Earth is for those who aspire to care for our common home in the way of Pope Francis,” retreat team leader Br Frank Richardson fms explained to Catholic Outlook.
“Now, on its sixth anniversary, the Pope has renewed his efforts to have Laudato Si’ more widely included in prayer and action by all churches. It has become an urgent task.”
Throughout the retreat, talks will explain God’s plan for the world in the way the natural world and the human family depend on each other for a beneficial life.
“Besides having all the facts and knowledge, there is a need to engage the heart,” Br Franks says.
“Much of the environmental action we are urged to do has become an end in itself, rather than an expression of love – love of the Creator and all of creation, love of Earth and all her life and love of neighbour as being of one family.
“Love is to be the motivation for resolving to deepen our ecological conversion.”
There will be opportunities for discussion throughout the retreat, as well as short nature walks amongst 40 acres of bushland on which the site sits.
Accommodation is available in male and female bunkrooms, each with shared facilities. There is also the option to camp in your own tent or mobile van.
Meals will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring a favourite or cultural dish to share on the Tuesday evening.
The retreat cost is $95 for adults and $75 for students.
The Passion for the Earth retreat will be held from 10am on Tuesday 6 July to 2pm Thursday 8 July at the Wooglemai Environmental Education Centre, 45 Sheeheys Creek Road, Oakdale, NSW.
