This year, schools and parishes across the country are getting a unique insight into how development work happens through the innovative Caritas Conversations program, which provides the opportunity to connect directly with Caritas Australia’s program staff, partners and program participants.

“I’ve been working with Caritas Australia for about 13 years now, and every year Project Compassion gives me a unique opportunity to share the work that I am so passionate about to the community,” says Eleanor Trinchera, Caritas Australia’s Asia Program Coordinator for Philippines.

“Previously I’ve spoken at Mass or supported program participants as they tour the country to talk about Project Compassion, but last year was the first time that we did online activities. It was exciting to be able to reach students and parishioners from other parts of the country.”

“I think what’s great about Caritas Conversations is that it’s not just what they learn from us, but also the infectious curiosity and enthusiasm for the work that we do. It inspires me to see engaged students that are taking the concepts of equality, justice and compassion to heart – so great to see during this season of Lent. It gives me hope that we are in good hands with this next generation, who are passionate about doing good and so much more engaged than we give them credit for.”

The conversations last year were a success, with some of them involving up to 600 students from 20 schools on one call.
