Diocese of Parramatta update on the coronavirus

24 December 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Re: COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Masks

The NSW Government has announced that as of midnight Thursday 23 December, masks are required to be worn in all indoor settings, including places of worship.

COVID-19 Safe Check-In and Record Keeping

Check-in using the NSW QR Code and record keeping of all attendees are still required for places of worship and remain important for NSW Health contact tracing.

Density Limits

At this stage, the NSW government is only reintroducing the 2 square metre rule for indoor hospitality venues. Based on the latest announcement made by the NSW Government, there is no change to density limits for places of worship i.e. no density limits will apply for our churches.

Other Measures

In an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the NSW government is also asking people to consider moving events outdoors where possible and discouraging mingling and singing.

Parishes should consider measures to manage the spread including:

  • The possibility of having Masses outdoors, weather permitting;
  • Discouraging congregational singing; and
  • Limiting social gatherings where possible.

Yours in Christ,

Very Rev Peter G. Williams
Vicar General & Moderator of the Curia
