The Diocese of Parramatta has been recognised by Caritas Australia for being the third largest contributor to its annual Lenten fundraiser Project Compassion.
In 2024, parishes, schools, agencies and ministries across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains contributed almost $580,000 to vulnerable and marginalised communities in Australia and around the world.
Dominic Smith, Community Engagement Animator for Caritas NSW/ACT said, “I wanted to highlight with you the success of Project Compassion 2024 in Parramatta, particularly the year-on-year increase of 28 per cent which was the third best Diocese across the nation. A huge congratulations and thanks for the efforts of schools, parishes and the generous people who call Parramatta home!”
Our school and parish communities went to incredible lengths to creatively raise money for Project Compassion. Some initiatives included collecting bottles and cans to recycle for change, cake stalls, photo booths, dress up days, and an abundance of pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.
These fundraising activities and events are a true demonstration of faith, empathy, and generosity of those who make up our communities in the Diocese.
At the launch of Project Compassion early this year at St Finbar’s Primary, Glenbrook, the students said, “Project Compassion help us to make small sacrifices to help those in need” and to “show our support for those less fortunate.”
Thank you to all in the Diocese of Parramatta who contributed to Project Compassion this year. Through your small or large contribution, you have helped Cartias make big changes for those who are vulnerable in our world now and for all future generations.
