Readings: Isaiah 55:6-9; Philippians 1:20-27; Matthew 20:1-6

Today, we are reminded of God’s immeasurable love and generosity towards His people.

In the reading taken from the book of Isaiah we are invited to get back to God’s gracious pardon for all our sins as God says, “My thoughts are not your thoughts and my way are not your ways.

St. Paul in the 2nd reading tells us that for him, to live is Christ.  The gospel reminds us of the master hiring labourers who had no work and thus employing them for a day’s wage.

God’s love for humanity is magnanimous. He created man and woman in His own likeness and loved them; even though they went astray; still He continued to love his creatures.

All our actions and words are centred round His love, because of His love.

We cannot be God’s children if we do not live the life of love. As St. Paul says , our love life will permeate only in kindness, gentleness and helpful sharing.

It cannot be jealous, revengeful or hatred. The labourers in the gospel were not satisfied with the generous invitation of the master, rather they were jealous of the other; but the master says that his contract was a denarius a day. At first, they agreed at the master’s generosity.

God loves us totally and invites us for true discipleship without any conditions. We become true disciples only through the breaking of the Word and the breaking of the Bread.

Let us continue in feeding ourselves and be grateful to the God who loves and shares his generosity with us, particularly in serving in his vineyard.

Fr. Clement Gnanapragasam OSB is the Assistant Priest at St Madeleine’s Sophie Barat Catholic Church Kenthurst.
