In his homily for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Fr Frank Brennan SJ, Rector of Newman College, Melbourne, acknowledges the 2020 National Day of Sorrow and Promise.

In his reflections, Fr Frank explains how a survivor of child sexual abuse, Wendy Holder, reached out to him, explaining her story, but offering her own words in the form of two poems.

With her permission, Fr Frank shares two of her poems, entitled Monster God and Easter 2018.

I’ve lived with the pain

most of my life

It does not scare me anymore

Because now I know this Monster God

grew out of the sins of man

Now I can live a different life

and tell my story of love desired

And perhaps one day

I will find my soul

embedded in that pain
