The Organisation:

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Wentworthville, of the Diocese of Parramatta is a busy parish. The Parish is committed to supporting the changing needs of the parish demographic and the needs of this fast-growing area. The Parish mission places emphasis on forming a vibrant, close-knit worshipping community and building a Church faithful to the tradition as well as being relevant to the present and future.

 

The Position:

The primary objective of the role of Parish Bookkeeper is to provide financial services to the Parish. The role requires compassion, discretion, complete confidentiality, a “can-do” attitude and a willingness to work autonomously. It requires a person who understands the nature of the front-line responsibility for “Sharing God’s Love”. This position does require an understanding and support of the ethos of the Catholic Church.

Principal Duties:

  • Recording planned giving donations in the planned giving menu.
  • Recording all collections including B-point, tap and go and Planned Giving.
  • Recording details of all payments and receipts into MYOB and producing monthly reconciliation statements and reports.
  • Recording and arranging payment of salaries for Parish employees, including superannuation and PAYG.
  • Arranging payment of Parish accounts.
  • Processing of debit and credit card donations.
  • Arranging completion of BAS Statements and payments of GST to the Australian Tax Office (ATO).
  • Arranging the printing and distribution to parishioners of annual receipts for donations and printing of giving reports if required.
  • Liaise with the Parish Accountant regarding all financial matters.
  • Prepare and Administer insurance claims and ensure that the cover is maintained at an adequate level.
  • Attend Parish Finance Committee meetings.
  • Record and do a periodic reconciliation between parish and Carmelite community finances and
  • To perform other tasks agreed duties as allocated from time to time by the Parish Priest.

 

Skills & Experience

  • Diploma, or Certificate IV in Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
  • Must have 3 years relevant Accounting / Book-Keeping experience.
  • Attention to detail and a well-ordered approach to work.
  • Must be competent in use of the Microsoft Office suite of programs e.g., Word, Excel and Outlook as well as MYOB.
  • Able to work well as part of a team and
  • Able to work autonomously, be accurate, and process work in a timely fashion.

Other relevant requirements

  • Working with Children’s and Police Check.

Risk and Occupational Health and Safety

  • Observe safe work practices in accordance with training and instruction given and report any risk to the parish priest. Risks arising in the workplace may be financial, site, task or person specific or related to safety.
  • Comply with the Parish work health and safety practices.
  • Identify, report and where appropriate, action risks/hazards in order to eliminate or mitigate against the risk recurring and
  • Participate in the consultative processes provided by the organisation.

The salary offered is a Clerks Private Sector Award 2020, Level 3 plus superannuation.
