Parramatta Marist High School Old Boys Union Dinner

“I think we are seeing a nice camaraderie develop between the students who went through the school together and those from other years."

Parramatta Marist High School is expecting its biggest attendance ever at this year’s annual Old Boys Union (OBU) dinner at Parramatta Leagues Club on 16 October.

The reunion has had a shot in the arm in recent years as former students from very recent years to the students from the Class of 1951 and many years in between gather for a night.

Parramatta Marist OBU President, Adam Hendry, said the focus this year was attracting the students from previous years, their mates, teachers, and classmates celebrating their significant anniversaries such as 10 or 30 years since graduation.

“I think we are seeing a nice camaraderie develop between the students who went through the school together and those from other years,” Adam said.

“Some of the men who choose to attend every year, or recently, have a great time talking and having a good laugh. It’s brilliant.”

The annual event not only reunites schoolmates, it also raises funds for the Brother Coman Memorial Scholarships, which have raised tens of thousands of dollars over the years to assist with education costs for some students.

“Br Coman was a much-loved father figure who embodied the best that Marist could offer and positively shaped the lives of many young men. We are proud to offer scholarships in his name,” Adam said.

“The generosity of the OBU is not lost on the Parramatta Marist community, whose members appreciate the value of the Br Coman Scholarships for families,” he said.

“We not only get some unique prizes from generous donors, we have a lot of fun quickly auctioning them, giving a quick school update so we maximise the time for catching up, which is the main aim.

“I’m particularly delighted the Parramatta Marist OBU is having a new lease on life and mates want to meet up and support other young men with their education.”

Parramatta Marist is Australia’s oldest Catholic school, established in 1820.
