Pilgrimage to the Holy Land – Day One

Each pilgrimage has provided a powerful formation experience, strengthening the faith of local Catholic leaders.

Led by Delegate of the Diocesan Administrator Rev Christopher de Souza PP, Greg Whitby, Chancery representatives, Catholic Education Office leaders and a small group of local principals are currently on pilgrimage to Jordan, Israel, Assisi and Rome.

There have been five pilgrimages in total, including journeys following in the footsteps of St Paul and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

Each pilgrimage has provided a powerful formation experience, strengthening the faith of local Catholic leaders. In addition to supporting principals in their work of evangelisation, pilgrimages have also forged and strengthened collaboration and community between participants.

Desiree Rashada, Manager of People and Culture, will be sharing with us a small snippet each day of their experiences while on pilgrimage.

Day 1

Today our group of 22 arrived in the Capital of Jordan, Amman for the official start to our Pilgrimage. We travelled past the city of Madabah, home to Ruth and up to the very beautiful Mount Nebo. It was here that Moses looked over the promised land and blessed Joshua who was to lead the Israelites under God’s protection. We celebrated a very stirring and beautiful inaugural mass and the very tired group travelled to our hotel on the Dead Sea for a swim in the water and some sleep.
