Shaping the Future of the Catholic Church – A Symposium

You are invited to a special event, Shaping the Future of the Catholic Church – A Symposium.

The Implementation Advisory Group (established by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and Catholic Religious Australia) are hosting the symposium on shaping the future of the Catholic Church with three international experts.

  • Prof Dr Massimo Faggioli, a Church Historian and Professor of Theology, Religious Studies, Villanova University, Philadelphia, USA
  • Rev Dr Richard Lennan, a Theologian and Professor of Systematic Theology at Boston College, Boston, USA; and
  • Prof Dr Myriam Wijlens, a Canon Lawyer and Theologian and Professor of Canon Law at University of Erfurt, Erfurt, Germany.

The experts will address numerous topics including the Ecclesiology of Vatican II; Theology and the Sexual Abuse Crisis; Theology for a Future-Orientated Church and Participative Engagement and Structures in a Missionary and Synodal Church. Responses and a Q&A session will follow each address.

The afternoon will be facilitated by Geraldine Doogue and will be held on Wednesday 4 March from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the SMC Conference and Function Centre, 66 Goulburn Street, Sydney.
