Held on Friday 21 June, the opening and blessing of extensive new facilities at St Patrick’s Primary Guildford was a joyous occasion, marking the official start of a new era at the school.
Between 2018 and 2021, the school underwent a total renovation and redevelopment, encompassing new and refurbished learning spaces across Kindergarten to Year 6, a new library and canteen, a total refurbishment of outdoor learning spaces, and a new administration office. The project was completed with the support of the Australian Government through the Capital Grants Program.
While students had already begun using the new facilities, the difficulties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic had delayed the formal opening. The community was grateful to finally be able to gather, celebrate and give thanks for their impressive new buildings, learning spaces and play areas.
Parish Priest Fr Peter Blayney joined Fr Robert Riedling, Episcopal Vicar for Education and Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta, for the blessing. Special guests at the event included the Hon Chris Bowen, Federal Member for McMahon and Cumberland Mayor, Councillor Lisa Lake.
St Patrick’s Principal, Steven Jones, said the new facilities meant much more to the community than just bricks and mortar, highlighting the positive impact the new facilities would have on student learning.
“They represent our collective ambition to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where every student can thrive and receive a Catholic education. These buildings are equipped with state-of-the-art classrooms, flexible learning spaces designed to foster creativity, collaboration, explicit teaching and critical thinking,” said Steven.
Improvements to the school have been designed with the future in mind, something Steven is especially proud of.
“Our new school buildings also embody our commitment to sustainability and innovation. With energy-efficient systems, and advanced technological infrastructure, we are preparing our students for a future where environmental stewardship and digital literacy are paramount,” he said.
