The Diocese of Parramatta’s social welfare agency Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains has organised a Toy Drive and Food Pantry for clients in Sydney’s west.

On 17 December 2024, as clients visited Catholic Care’s All Saints of Africa community drop-in centre next door to St Patrick’s church at Blacktown, they were able to collect goods that would support themselves and their families during the Christmas period.

Family Services Coordinator Abby Wells said it was great to see the community being so generous to those in need.

“It shows that people understand the financial difficulties that people are experiencing around Christmas time, particularly with the cost of living and housing affordability crisis.

“We’re so grateful for the room full of generous hamper donations and the impact this will have on families we work with having food on the table and gifts under the tree this Christmas, she said.

Abby said that essential items such as groceries and children’s gifts provide vulnerable families with direct and tangible support.

“These donations are of incredible value to our clients, and they are but one part of a whole range of holistic support services offered by Catholic Care, including case management, parenting programs, financial counselling, housing support and much more.

“It’s a small way we are making a big impact on the lives of the hundreds of families we work with.,” she said.
