Women and the Australian Church (WATAC) will continue its 2025–26 Sacred Conversations series on Tuesday 3 March at 7:30 pm (AEDT) with an online reflective seminar exploring the theme of Peace.
The first event of this year will feature Beth Doherty — Catholic storyteller, feminist, educator and musician — presenting an address titled “Finding Peace in an Unjust World.”
Through a blend of song and story, Doherty will draw on her own experiences as a Christian woman alongside collective struggles for justice. Challenging familiar clichés of ‘world peace,’ she will argue that authentic peace is not passive or conflict‑averse, but instead a courageous engagement with the injustices that shape our world.
Her reflections will weave together insights from contemporary and prophetic voices such as Rachel Held Evans and St Óscar Romero, inviting participants to consider how faith holds tension, discomfort and hope together.
Speaking candidly about the complexity of belonging to an imperfect Church, Doherty will explore what it means to choose active, resilient hope. Her message — summed up in her commitment to proclaim ‘hallelujah anyway’ — offers a vision of peace grounded in resistance, love and the ongoing work of justice.
WATAC’s Sacred Conversations series provides a space for thoughtful, faith‑filled dialogue that honours women’s voices and fosters inclusive theological reflection. The 2025–26 theme Peace will guide the quarterly sessions throughout the year.
