Catholic Youth Parramatta (CYP) has encouraged young people across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains to celebrate Palm Sunday in their own parishes.

Due to an announcement made by Pope Francis in November 2020, the local Diocesan celebration of World Youth Day will no longer be held on Palm Sunday.

The new World Youth Day will be commemorated on the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (Christ the King) in November. This new date will showcase an exciting, but yet to be announced celebration here in the Diocese of Parramatta for students, youth and young adults.

James Camden, Director, CYP, wrote an article for the National Centre for Evangelisation about what the change of dates means to the local church. The article can be read here.

Due to the change of dates, the CYP-organised procession through the Parramatta CBD ahead of the Palm Sunday Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral will no longer go ahead.

Enjoy celebrating Palm Sunday in your own parish in 2021!
