His Eminence Michael Cardinal Czerny, SJ, has written an essay for the latest edition of Review for Religious.

His insightful study of “Religious Life from Vatican II to Fratelli tutti” was developed from a presentation the Cardinal delivered to men and women religious from the United States, Canada, and other nations on January 21, 2021.

Cardinal Czerny outlines a history of magisterial teaching on consecrated religious life from Vatican II to Fratelli tutti. He goes on to draw on the teaching of Pope Francis on consecrated religious life and brings the themes of Fratelli tutti into dialogue with that teaching to provide new insight about religious life.

You can read the Cardinal’s essay in full here and watch the video that was the foundation for the piece.

This essay originally appeared in Review for Religious, 1, no. 1 (Summer 2021): 87–106.
