At Our Lady of the Nativity Primary Lawson, National Child Protection Week was a joyful community celebration of the protection of children and young people.
In this spirit, students were welcomed to school with a balloon arch and fun surprises kept them smiling throughout the week.
Activities included a liturgy, sausage sizzle, art focused on sharing kindness, mufti day and yummy treats including dippin’ dots ice-cream!
The week had a strong focus on educating children about safety with students participating in the Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson livestream, an age-appropriate session focused on protective behaviours.
Principal Lisa Samojlowicz said protecting children and young people is the school’s top priority and welcomed the opportunity to involve students in this learning experience organised by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
“Australia’s Biggest Safety Lesson is a great way for us to join together as a nation to get the message to our kids that we have their backs and their safety and wellbeing is our priority right across Australia,” Lisa said.
“We protect our kids by loving them and that means we must educate them. We have to be able to create a safe environment in which they know and have the confidence to recognise and also speak out when they are in unsafe situations.”
Friday finished up with a games afternoon on the school’s spacious oval and one last fun surprise- fairy floss all around! Though the official celebrations have concluded, child protection is the focus every week at Our Lady of the Nativity Primary Lawson and the safety and well-being of our children will always be the first priority!
