Renowned theologian Tomas Halik, known for his insights of faith and reason in a secular age, will deliver a lecture in Parramatta on Monday the 11th of February, hosted by the Diocese of Parramatta. This event presents an opportunity to hear Halik discuss his life journey, including his experiences as an “underground priest” during the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, and his role in the Czechia Catholic Church.
In the 1980s, he bravely challenged Soviet communism, facing persecution as an “enemy of the regime” for his beliefs. Following the fall of communism, he played a pivotal role in revitalising the Czech Catholic Church. Beyond his academic pursuits, Halík’s compassion extended to working as a psychotherapist, supporting individuals struggling with addiction.
A champion of interfaith and ecumenical dialogue, Halik delves into the complexities of faith, agnosticism, and atheism, seeking common ground and fostering mutual respect.
