Everyone is warmly invited to a Remembrance Mass and Prayers for our clergy who have died.
An initiative of the Diocese, the third annual Remembrance Mass for deceased clergy will be held on Tuesday 19 November 2024 at 9am at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, St Marys.
Mark Buhagiar, Head of Clergy Health and Wellbeing is the spearhead for this Mass, having introduced it three years ago.
“I am delighted to continue the practice of organising this Mass to remember and pray for our deceased clergy and encourage each parish to arrange a Mass for the deceased clergy who served their local communities,” he said.
“These men dedicated their lives to drawing others closer to God, and each parish should take it upon themselves to remember their contribution to the life of the local church. As Catholics and as parishioners, this is our opportunity to show our gratitude and care for those who have cared for us,” he said.
Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv, will be concelebrating the Mass with other Diocesan priests. Emeritus Bishop Kevin Manning who died in July this year, will be remembered in a special way.
Following Mass there will be a small Morning Tea and then prayers at St Marys public cemetery to pray for the three priests that are buried there:
Fr James Phelan who died in 1898
Fr Peter Connelley who died in 2013
Fr George O’Mara who died in 2018
