Bishop Homeming’s Lenten Talk 1: The Jubilee Year of Hope and an invitation to solitude

By Outlook Contributor, 16 March 2025

In Chapter 4 of Luke’s Gospel, Jesus is tempted in the wilderness.

Bishop Greg reminds us that the greatest temptation we face is the temptation to give up hope. With 2025 being the Jubilee Year of Hope, this message is especially powerful.

When the Northern Rivers faced another flood over the weekend, many were tempted to despair. True faith calls us to resist this temptation and trust in God’s plan.

Later in this talk, Bishop invites us to explore our interior self through solitude. Even ten minutes per day will help us towards achieving this disposition.

This talk was recorded on 10 March 2025. Please join us in person for the next talk on 17 March at St Mary’s Chapel.

Between 2022 and 2024 Bishop Greg Homeming OCD delivered three series of Lenten Talks, exploring the spirituality of three renowned Carmelites – St John of the Cross, St Teresa of Avila and St Therese of Lisieux. Produced by the Diocese of Lismore.

With thanks to Diocese of Lismore, Evangelise and Bishop Greg Homeming OCD.
