Diocese of Parramatta update on the coronavirus

25 June 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Re: COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Today, NSW Health extended the COVID-19 guidelines for indoor venues (including places of worship) that came into effect Wednesday 23 June 2021. These guidelines are now effective until midnight Friday 2 July 2021. The following rule changes will continue to apply until that date.

Places of Worship and Religious Services

The maximum number of people at Masses and places of worship will be limited by the 4 square metre rule (rather than 2 square metres), both indoors and outdoors.

Weddings and Funerals

The maximum number of people at weddings and funerals will also be limited by the 4 square metre rule (rather than 2 square metres), both indoors and outdoors.

Singing

Indoor singing by the congregation is not permitted at this time during Mass and liturgies.

Singing by choirs is permissible, provided members of the choir wear masks.

Face Masks

NSW Health continues to mandate people above the age of 12 to wear a mask at all indoor venues, including places of worship and at parish offices.

With my prayers,

Very Rev Peter G. Williams
Vicar General & Moderator of the Curia
