Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, in partnership with Holy Family Parish Emerton, Baabayn Aboriginal Corporation and Blacktown City Council, are proud to co-host the 2025 Mt Druitt NAIDOC Week Event – a vibrant community celebration of Aboriginal culture, resilience and community spirit.

Held on Thursday 10 July 2025 from 10am to 3pm at Whalan Sports Park, the event promises a day full of joy, reflection and cultural connection.

The theme this year, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, invites all generations to walk together in honouring the wisdom of Elders and empowering the leaders of tomorrow.

Helen Emmerson, Executive Director of Catholic Care, said NAIDOC Week remains a deeply significant celebration.

“It honours the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including those who are part of our community, who we are privileged to serve,” she said.

Sebastian Salaske-Lentern, Peace, Justice & Ecology Coordinator for the Diocese of Parramatta, said that walking with First Nations communities is central to the mission of the Church and reflects the values of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan.

“Serving and standing with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is not an optional extra – it’s core to who we are as Church in Australia,” he said.

“Our Pastoral Plan calls us to walk together in solidarity, justice and deep listening – and being involved in NAIDOC Week is a significant way to walk more closely with our First Nations brothers and sisters.”

The event will feature community stalls, fun rides, a BBQ lunch, and a wide array of cultural activities. The Diocese of Parramatta’s Mission Enhancement Team has partnered with Catholic Care to host an exciting, interactive stall that showcases the support services offered across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Catholic Care’s Art and Yarning group, which meets every Wednesday in Emerton, will attend the NAIDOC event and share beautiful handmade gifts featuring their artwork with attendees of Aunty Janice, Aunty Rhonda, Neroli, Aunty Pat and other local Aunties.

“NAIDOC Week is a time for listening and learning – but also for joy, celebration and connection,” said Sebastian.

“We’re excited to welcome people from across the Diocese to enjoy free giveaways, meet local artists and connect with Elders and Aunties from across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.”

Helen added, “It’s a celebration of identity, hope and healing — and everyone’s welcome. Bring your family and friends, come say hello to our team, and learn more about the ways we’re here to support the community when it’s needed most.”

Volunteers Needed!

To make the day a success, we’re inviting volunteers to lend a hand. Roles include marshalling, stage support, BBQ cooking, and setup/pack-down. Whether you can spare a few hours or the full day, your presence will make a real difference.

Let’s come together to celebrate culture, community, and care. It’s going to be deadly!
