I was privileged to join with the L’Arche NSW Community on Sunday 21 December to celebrate Christmas and give thanks for 2025. Such a spirit of welcome, inclusion and celebration of every person was so tangible with smiles everywhere.
In the midst of such a sad chapter in the life of our Australian community on Sunday evening at Bondi Beach, the L’Arche community is committed to “mutual relationships and trust in God at the heart of our journey together and we celebrate the unique value of every person and recognise our need for each other.” (L’Arche Australia Mandate 2023-2028)

This commitment is alive across our communities and was celebrated wonderfully on Sunday at the Burwood RSL (NSW), where all present celebrated together with joy. At the heart of the celebration were the Core members and their families, joined by the wonderful NSW Community Leader, Krishnee Nair, Assistants and the NSW Board members, led by Chair Kumar Rasiah, the Community Council and a host of members of the broader community.
There were many highlights for the NSW Community during 2025, including the Blessing and Opening of the L’Arche Parramatta home by Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv, Bishop of Parramatta, in August, who welcomed L’Arche as a valued member of the Diocese of Parramatta community.

We give thanks for L’Arche NSW and for our communities across Australia, which continue to shine the light of faith into our communities through their active presence.
We wish everyone the blessings and message of Peace of the Christ-child.
Phil Billington is the National Board Chair for L’Arche Australia.
With thanks to L’Arche Australia.
