The Abraham Conference plays an important role in bringing Jews, Christians and Muslims together to discuss contemporary issues of concern for the members of the three religions and for the wider society.

The theme of the 2021 Abraham Conference is Women Leaders in the Abrahamic Traditions: Role Models for Our Time. Our context is the continuing strong impact and significance of the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements and the revelations of abuse in our federal parliament, all of which brought thousands of women onto the streets in protest.

This year, the Abraham Conference wants to highlight the positive role of women in the Abrahamic traditions. The three speakers at this year’s conference will help conference attendees recover some of those lost traditions of inspiring women leaders, to highlight the contribution and the difference they made in their time.

  • The Jewish speaker, Jacquie Seemann Charak, is a co-founder and committee member of Or Chadash, a Modern Orthodox Synagogue, and the Sydney’s Women’s Tefila Group.
  • The Christian speaker, Sr Michele Connolly, is a lecturer in Biblical Studies at the Catholic Institute of Sydney.
  • The Muslim speaker, Yamamah Agha, is General Manager of the Humanitarian Settlement Program at Settlement Services International.
  • The MC for 2021 is Jane Jeffes, producer and director of a range of documentaries and successful TV formats through her company, Firefly Productions, for the ABC, SBS, Al Jazeera, C4, RTE, Arte and ORF, among others. She is also the former executive producer of The Religion and Ethics Report on ABC Radio.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with the speakers during the online conference.

Conference partners – Affinity Intercultural Foundation, Australian Egyptian Forum Council, Australasian Muslim Times (AMUST), Columban Centre for Christian-Muslim Relations, Diocese of Parramatta, Ecumenical Council of NSW, Indian Crescent Society of Australia (ICSOA), NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, and the Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of NSW & ACT – look forward to your participation in a stimulating and thought-provoking afternoon of interfaith dialogue and friendship at this year’s #AbrahamConference.

The 2021 Abraham Conference will be held on Sunday 10 October from 2.30pm to 4pm via Zoom. To receive the Zoom link, register for free by clicking here.
