His Eminence Cardinal Giorgio Marengo I.M.C. Apostolic Prefect of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, is coming to Australia for a unique visit as Catholic Mission’s guest this June.

“It is our great honour to welcome Cardinal Marengo here in Australia, and to hear about the incredible work missionaries are doing on the ground in Mongolia,” says Fr Brian Lucas, Catholic Mission National Director.

Being one of the smallest Catholic communities in the world, Mongolia’s Catholic community is vibrant by its dedication to be there with the people. Within the last 30 years, the Church has established itself as an essential social services provider in the Mongolian landscape.

“One of Cardinal Marengo’s most significant social work in Mongolia is the establishment of the House of Mercy, a haven for many people at the margin of society, a life-giving project open to all,” says Fr Brian Lucas.

During his Apostolic Journey to Mongolia in 2023, Pope Francis blessed the House of Mercy recognising its importance:

“The House of Mercy is meant to be the point of reference for a variety of charitable works, hands outstretched towards our brothers and sisters, struggling to navigate life’s problems. A safe haven, in other words, where people can find a listening ear and an understanding heart.”

This June, Cardinal Marengo will share about his work and the role of the Catholic Church in Mongolia, discussing the importance of interfaith dialogue as key to a harmonious future and society.

As part of his visit, along with other esteemed guest speakers, Cardinal Marengo will participate in an inspiring panel discussion about the importance of interfaith dialogue and its application.

This event is open to everyone and is free to attend. It will take place on Friday June 21 at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) North Sydney, at 4:30pm. The event is also available online. To book your seat, register here: cm.org.au/CardinalMarengoEvent

The Diocese of Parramatta will host Cardinal Marengo with Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv on Saturday, 22 June 2024, when they will concelebrate the Vigil Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta, at 6pm.

All are welcome to attend the Vigil Mass and join Cardinal Marengo in the Cloister Function Room afterwards to hear more about his work over some light refreshments.

The event is free to attend, however registration is essential. Please register here: https://parracatholic.org/cardinalmarengo

With thanks to Catholic Mission.
