Bishop Vincent Long visits OLMC Parramatta

The Bishop joined staff for morning tea in the convent garden followed by a tour of the school.

Members of the school community at Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta welcomed Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv on 2 November 2016. Bishop Vincent joined staff for morning tea in the convent garden then toured the college with the Principal, Stephen Walsh.

In May this year, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Vincent the fourth Bishop of Parramatta. Stephen Walsh said the school community at OLMC was very much looking forward to working with Bishop Vincent in a joint commitment to serving the Catholic community of Western Sydney.

OLMC Parramatta is a Catholic independent girls’ school established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1889.

General Chapter elects new Congregation Leader and Council

The 11th general Chapter of the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta was held in two sessions this year, from 25-29 August and 7-10 October. A total of 46 voting chapter members engaged in discussion, reflection, and personal and communal discernment.

Those sisters elected to serve in leadership over the next six years are:
Congregation Leader: Sr Mary-Louise Petro RSM
Congregation Vicar: Sr Maria Lawton RSM
Congregation Councillor: Sr Patricia Bolster RSM
Congregation Councillor: Sr Margaret Jones RSM
Congregation Councillor: Sr Margaret Sheppard RSM
The new Congregation Leader and Council will take office on 8 December 2016.
