All are invited to a special Diocesan Mass to commemorate the life of our beloved Pope Francis and to pray for the repose of his soul. The Mass will be held this Sunday 27 April 2025 at 11am at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta and will be celebrated by Bishop Vincent Long OFM Conv, Bishop of Parramatta. The Mass will also be livestreamed on St Patrick’s YouTube channel.
It is expected that Catholics from across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains will gather in prayerful remembrance, joining the universal Church in mourning the death of the Holy Father and commending him to the mercy of God.
This special Mass will be celebrated in accordance with the Church’s liturgical tradition on the final day of the Easter Octave and will reflect how Pope Francis wished to be remembered – not as a powerful person, but as a humble and dedicated Servant of God. The Mass will offer everyone a special opportunity to pray for Pope Francis and give thanks for his life and ministry that was characterised by compassion, service, dialogue and respect for all he encountered.
The Mass will include sacred music from the St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir. All are invited, Catholics and non-Catholics, to attend this special Mass and spend time in prayer for the eternal rest of the Holy Father.
