Did you know around three million Australians provide care to a family member or friend?
This National Carers Week (13-19 October), the Diocese of Parramatta and its social services agency Catholic Care Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains (Catholic Care WSBM) is raising awareness of the role and importance of carers in our society, in recognition of their vital contribution.
Catholic Care WSBM Executive Director Helen Emmerson said the role of carers is vital in our Western Sydney community.
“We appreciate the love, generosity and compassion shown each day by carers in our Western Sydney and Blue Mountains community,” Helen said.
“Our wonderful staff, volunteers and clients who provide care for others are an integral part of the fabric of our community.
“Though the counselling and family services offered by Catholic Care WSBM, we continue to support carers in Sydney’s west.”
Helen said anyone can become a carer, at any time.
“It takes selflessness, empathy and respect to be a carer,” Helen said.
“This includes checking in regularly with those who need care, ask them on how you can help and listen openly, without making assumptions.
“Our drop-in centres and wellbeing workshops provide wonderful opportunities for those in care and their carers to support their own wellbeing.”
