All Shall Be Well: Spirituality, Aging, and Re-Enchantment

Today we begin a stirring conversation with prolific author, spiritual teacher, and Catholic priest, Fr Ron Rolheiser, OMI. Fr Ron’s book “The Holy Longing” is in the top 3 most spiritually shaping books of my life, and I’m thrilled that our community gets to learn from him.

The conversation is in three overlapping but distinct parts. First, he shares the heart behind his brand new book, Insane for the Light. Second, we dive into his brilliant and yet “under-understood” framework for the Paschal Mystery. Finally, I express our desire to become a community of Re-enchantment in a disillusioned world, and he offers thoughtful guidance for our journey. Part One: What is the End of Our Lives for?

Insane for the Light.

Fr Ron’s book Insane for the Light: A Spirituality for Our Wisdom Years is an honest mediation on “how to give our deaths away” as we approach the final season of life. Most of us spend our youth trying to get our lives together. We then focus our middle years on learning to give our lives away. But very little has been written about living the later-years with purpose and a new kind of generativity. Ron is 78 years old and currently in his fourth battle with cancer. He told me, frankly, “I wanted to write this book before I die”
