The newly formed St Luke’s Medical Professionals Group invites you to the Mass for doctors, nurses and medical professionals, to be held at St Joseph’s Kingswood on Saturday 17 October, commencing 10.30am. The principal celebrant will be Fr Fernando Montano, Vicar General of the Parramatta Diocese. There will be time for meeting and networking with like-minded professionals after the Mass.
While this is a Mass for doctors, nurses and medical professionals, anyone interested in the healthcare ministry in the Diocese is welcome to attend. Ministering the love of Jesus for the sick and the dying in the healthcare ministry of the Church is for everyone. This includes members of our families in the internal focus of care, while the external focus is caring for our neighbour in need, our patients. This external focus of care has sacramental, pastoral and professional dimensions, from conception to the moment of natural death.
The Mass will offer support for our Catholic healthcare professionals, who are facing an especially challenging environment in ministering the love of Jesus for the sick and the dying in our community today. In particular, they are at the front line of care in facing the many ethical and pastoral issues challenging our respect for life from conception to natural death. These ethical issues often reflect confusion as to the nature of human identity (including sexual identity) and our relationship with God in the lives of patients seeking help from their healthcare professionals. Hence, the healthcare professional seeking to respond professionally to their patients’ health issues cannot avoid issues of faith and compassion. They need adequate formation and support for their vocation as Catholic professionals.
The St Luke’s Medical Professionals Group meets at St Joseph’s Kingswood. The group was formed from a number of doctors and nurses at Nepean Hospital who expressed a need to connect with other Catholic healthcare professionals, and supported in their professional vocations, especially in the western end of the Parramatta Diocese.
This Mass is an example of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan priorities of Prayer, Formation and Community. Visit Synodality to find out more.
