Dr Susan Connelly RSJ reflects on ACBC Social Justice Statement

In the increasingly tense and confusing world, I for one, take comfort and guidance from the message about Peace and Justice from our Australian bishops.

To quote their Social Justice Statement 2024-2025: Peace is the work of everyone, and we can all do something to be peace-makers. Indeed it is a duty imposed on us by the Gospel. Peace is to be made on both the macro and micro level. We need to act small but think big, to act locally but think globally.

The bishops also speak clearly about the erosion of truth, the misinformation, spin, and disinformation in our news sources. Some misinformation or disinformation is so bizarre that it can be dismissed, but I suspect that it leaves some damage, some lingering doubt.

Dr Susan Connelly RSJ, a Josephite sister, is an expert in this area and she will be speaking about it at a luncheon at Hunters Hill on Saturday 15 March.

She has firsthand experience of both Timor-Liste and West Papua, our near neighbours.

She will ask, have we as a nation, treated these people as precious in God’s sight or as the Pope recently expressed it, have we recognised the infinite and transcendent dignity of every human person?

Her answer to this will include, sadly true, tales of spying and international skullduggery. Come and hear all about it.

Join us for a luncheon with Dr Susan Connelly RSJ on the ACBC’s Social Justice Statement 2024-25 “Truth and Peace: A Gospel Word in a Violent World” on 15 March at 12.30pm. It is held at Hunters Hill Parish Hall, tickets $35 each.
